About the Good Sam Club
Who We Are…
The world’s largest organization of recreational vehicle (RV) owners, the Good Sam Club is committed to making RVing a safer and more rewarding experience for its 1.2 million members. Founded in 1966 by Trail-R-News, a small California RV magazine, Club members originally promised to help fellow travelers on America’s highways.
Today, Good Sam’s halo and broad smile continue to signify friendliness among RVers and an eagerness to serve, although on a much larger scale. Nearly 1,500 grassroots Good Sam Club Chapters from Anchorage, Alaska, to Okeechobee, Florida, get together for RV campouts, good times and community service. The Club’s state and provincial organizations host RV gatherings called Samborees that likewise promote RV fellowship and philanthropy, only on a larger scale. And the ultimate RV event, the Good Sam Rally, is held three times per year and brings together thousands of RVers from across North America to listen to RV experts, shop for RV headlights, tailpipes and everything in between. Hundreds of worthy causes benefit from the fundraising and volunteer efforts of Good Sam members, from Adopt-a-Park and Adopt-a-Highway to Dogs for the Deaf and Serious Fun Children’s Network.
Founded in 1966
Based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the Good Sam Club is a sister company of Camping World, America’s largest retailer of RV supplies, accessories, services and new and used RVs. Both the Good Sam Club and Camping World were founded in 1966. The Good Sam Club offers RVers the resources to make the most of the RV lifestyle, including significant savings on RV and health insurance, financing, roadside assistance, extended warranties and repairs. Good Sam Club members receive a 10% discount at the club’s network of 1,700 Good Sam RV Parks and Campgrounds, and they receive special discounts at Camping World, discounts on fuel at Pilot Flying J Travel Centers plus a magazine named Highways which provides members with valuable information about the RV lifestyle. GoodSamClub.com provides members with more tools for finding campgrounds, planning trips and money saving deals. The Smile & Save program brings significant savings to members through partnerships with businesses across the country. Because many Good Sam members are NASCAR fans who travel to races in their RVs, the Good Sam Club recently entered the NASCAR arena, sponsoring drivers and events, including Talladega’s Good Sam 500. Throughout its 46-year history, the Good Sam Club has been a leader for the RV community by sponsoring and influencing legislation on issues ranging from increasing outdoor recreation opportunities on public lands to combating discriminatory anti-RV parking ordinances, advocating scenic byways and defining motorhome lemon laws. The Club not only offers members its Action Line consumer-advocacy program, it provides up-to-the-minute RV recall information and has developed the Standby Sams, a network of volunteers who assist traveling members.
Considering its long history, solid reputation and substantial membership, it’s no surprise that the Good Sam Club is known across North America as the Face of RVing.
