SOUTHWEST

CUSTER

  • BEAVER LAKE CAMPGROUND  – This park is a Good Sam Park and is an accessible park with good interior roads and pads with plenty of trees.  No worries if trees cover your satellite as they have cable and free Wi-fi.  Pads are not paved but are accessible with scooter or wheelchair.  Sites A, B, C and D are newer and nice full service sites.  These sites are in close proximity to the office, main bathroom and laundry, which are accessible.  There are a few sites that are in closer proximity to the accessible bathroom.  Other bathrooms away from the office are not accessible.  Sites include tent with and without electric, RV with water and electric, or full service, and cabins.   Nice park for those with self-contained RVs.   (605) 673-2464.
  • CUSTER STATE PARK – Special Note:  This park has a number of hairpin turns and may not be easily navigated with a large bus.  It can be done, just be careful.  It is not unusual to find a Bison standing in the middle of the highway.  And it is HIS highway, so be patient.
  • GAME LODGE CAMPGROUND  – This park is an accessible park with paved roads and paved RV pads, good for guests with limited mobility.  Very good spacing between sites to allow ease of access around site in a wheelchair. Specific “accessible sites” are marked and there are 2 such sites near restrooms and showers.  Recommendation:  Improve accessibility within bathrooms and showers.  Eliminate curb of shower and provide roll in entry.  Also need to upgrade bathroom amenities to meet current standards.

 RAPID CITY

  • RAPID CITY KOA An accessible park with 5 paved sites with paved patios and outdoor furniture that is accessible as well as fire rings.  The manager was very friendly and welcomed us to examine their park for accessible facilities.  The accessible sites are not 20′ wide but negotiable and are considered “Deluxe Sites”.  According to ADA regulations, a disabled person who needs an accessible site that just happens to be labeled “Deluxe” is not required to have to pay any more than a regular site as long as their disability requires such an accommodation.
